Even with youtube being a great tool, I ended up wasting a lot of time with yt shorts. The solution was to use two extensions; "Unhook" that disables several functions, including the shorts tab, and the "Youtube-shorts block" extension, which plays the video as if it were a normal video, without the possibility of sliding it up.
