Well, he's partially right. Bula is the only producer of PRESS FORGED M14 receivers. LRB is the only producer of HAMMER FORGED receivers. I did not know this until I was talking to some interested passers-by at SHOT and I said they were hammer forged.

LRB and Bula are generally considered the best builders of forged receivers. A good M14 is as reliable as an M1. I would say a Springfield M1A falls in that category. I am with the others here: take advantage of Springfield's warranty and don't change a bunch of parts out. My personal M14 is a JRA, with the receiver made by Bula.

Back when they used USGI parts and before BULA started new production parts. JRA was using some Criterion barrels at that time and there was a batch that had rough chambering. My rifle was unfortunately one of them. No reason to get a BM-59 vs. M1A unless you are into collecting one. There are some great choices for M1A's / M14's and though more involved than an AR, you can build your own tackdriver. The JRA's must have been a big hit the BM59s where $1050 not long ago and IIRC the JRA M1a is a cast receiver for those that care.
