I like the 300 grain jacketed hollow points for hunting. These have some punch reloaded with Hodgdon 322 powder. My favorite plinking loads are also 300 grain, but in lead format with IMR Trailboss.Someone messed up. And it wasn't considered enough of an issue to junk the barrel. It is a cosmetic defect only, and serves to make your 336 distinctive. There is no functional problem. The JM stamp was put on last, as it is where it's supposed to be. Incidentally, that JM stamp is one of the clearest ones I've seen.

According to my SN (last few digits omitted) this 1895 is a 1999 model. The “JM” appears as indicated in the couple examples noted here. I’m confident this is an authentic Marlin. If not, it’s one heck of a fake. We don’t have a large data sample of the JM stamp in question.
